I am not sure why everyone is sayig the weather cannot be fog. It was fog when I caught all of them. I used a versatile lure. Caught them all very quickly.

My experience:
- Talked to the hunter guy for the quest
- Splashed across to the rock next to the waterfall where another hunter was trying to catch the fish
- Tossed my line in the water with the leftover Stonefly Nymphs from the previous quest
- Caught a Blueclaw Shrimp and realized - thanks to all the previous comments! - that I could mooch with these lil guys
- Activated Patience and mooched three Shadowhiskers off three Blueclaw Shrimp with my next three casts.

Easy!

Shadowhisker can be caught either by mooching a large Blueclaw Shrimp (a ! bite) or straight without mooching (the only !! bite in the hole if none of the weather dependent fish like Pipira Pira are active). If the weather is NOT Clouds, Dust Storms, or Fog, it will be the only !! bite.

If you don't want to bother with mooching, use Chum (it will shorten time to bite) and cast out with Versatile Lure/Brute Leech and only reel in !! bites.

If you do want to mooch, use Patience and Purse Web Spider/Stonefly Nymph. Use Precision Hookset on all ! bites, and mooch if you catch a large Blueclaw Shrimp. If you get a !! bite, use Powerful Hookset. (The hookset skills cancel out the debuff you get for using Patience that makes the fish slip more often.)

No matter the method, it probably won't take more than 10 minutes to catch three of them. Happy fishing!

just versatile lure alone got me 9 in a few minutes, no patience or mooching needed, also with a few river shrimp in between ^^

For me it was straight: I caught 9 within 5 minutes!

Location as said below, at the water fall, around X32 / Y11.7.
I used versatile lure, standard catch & hook (no patience, AA at zero). I got them in a row, with a shrimp in between once in a while.

Now I had the quest "Invasion of the Supper Snatchers" active. I'm not sure how far it makes a difference regarding spawning rate of the shadowhiskers. It would need confirmation.

Side note: If you have Identical Cast, don't forget to use it. It works for that fish.

Fisher is at Lv. 57 (Gathering: 388; Perception: 287)

Used Patience only (didn't need Mooch or Powerful/Precision Hookset). Caught after 4 or 5 tries of moving around the area. Most fish got away. Eventually got one.

Im lvl 63 with 307 gathering 224 perception and this worked well for me :)
Chum > Cast > Hook and got them pretty fast (few shrimp in between). Versatile Lure as bait. easy peasy

Best combo is Patience > Precision Hookset (the Blueclaw Shrimp is a weak bite, so Powerful Hookset won't work) > Mooch > Cast > Powerful Hookset to catch the Shadowhisker.

Used Stonefly Nymph and caught my 3 in a row.

Instead of patience I used Chum/Hook/Mooch had great results

Also used Kreyn tutorial, but with an alteration: instead of using Hook after casting, used Powerful Hookset both times. Hook by itself seemed less effective.

Took about 10 tries, but I have ilvl200 gear.

TDF, The Hundred Throes (31, 10.7) Versatile Lure. Got 3 in ~15 casts. Snagging and Patience used.

Use Stonefly Nymph.

Patience > Cast > Hook.
You get a Blueclaw Shrimp. Then;
Mooch > Cast.

& you'll see the !! which is the Shadowshisker.
