Throughout childhood, Blaise Lallaise was expected to be a master of magical arts. His parents took it upon themselves to ensure that he got into the best school of Conjury as early as possible. But Blaise never had a desire to learn Conjury. Instead, he has always been enthralled by the melee arts, particularly hand-to-hand combat. During classes, Blaise tended to daydream about epic combat with vicious monsters and he often read about the Ul'dahn guild of Pugilists. His grades often reflected his lack of passion for Conjury.

After a year and a half of Conjury schooling, Blaise decided he had enough. Though his family vehemently protested, Blaise decided to leave his home, forsaking his non-supportive family, and go to Ul'dah to learn the art of Pugilism. He wasn't sure where his adventures would take him, or if he would fall on his face only to return home in shame, but he knew he could not just ignore his dream just to please his family. He had to try, no matter the cost.
