The Quiet Sword: Entry 30 – The Weight of Earth

Public
Reflections of Vanya Elentari

I’ve begun studying conjury in earnest, seeking to better understand the Light… though I suspect my notions of “holy magic” may be misplaced. At Stillglade Fane, Brother E–Sumi–Yan sent me to the North Shroud to learn of earth’s power from Hearer Nolanel. There, amid the hush of the trees, I communed with corrupted soil, faced the wrath of an earth sprite, and felt the crushing might of the land itself.

Before returning to Gridania, I decided to linger in the North Shroud a while longer, to better grasp this land and its people. I wandered forest paths, met locals weighed down by humble troubles, and offered what help I could. It made me realize: when I first arrived in Ul’dah, I was so wrapped up in my own journey that I never truly did the same there. Perhaps, once my duties for the Scions ease, I should go back and acquaint myself properly with the city I’ve chosen to call home—and with those who live their lives within its gilded walls.

Sylphie, a young conjurer of startling talent, was there at Blessed Bud—able to heal wounds with barely a thought, yet heedless of the nature that empowers her. She shuns learning, content with wielding gifts she does not understand. I fear what such ignorance might bring. Brother E–Sumi–Yan confided similar worries, hoping that should our paths cross again, I might help guide her.

For now, I carry on. The weight of the earth still lingers in my bones—a reminder of the strength that sustains all life, and of the solemn duty I’ve taken upon myself to wield that strength with care.
