Hello mates! Glad to be in Eorzea and having a blast with ya'll!

Does anyone know a fairly efficient method to gain gil? I don't wish to farm it galore, but merely wish to be a bit pampered for early stages of the game.

Well, it'd depend on the echonomo of your server, but semi-early gathering items usually sell well, the stuff you cant buy in the guild suppliers (usually lv.11+ items from mining or botany, some earlier stuff too if the people dont know easy places to get the stuff or dont care to level a sub craft for items like iron ingots), levequests can be ok too i guess..

In the short term, you can acquire gil by participating in FATEs, turning in quests, and doing leves. Some beastmen drop very low amounts of gil (1-3 maybe)
Long term, you are looking at crafting and crafting materials.
