I’ve been thinking about last night and my total lack of progress on floor 91. Watched a few videos of people doing their clears. Basically, what you have to do, is on the final floor set, there are columns on the side of the room that stick out, and once you can get into position, you can easily interrupt their casts. It’s something I am going to have to practice, but unfortunately I could not, because I didn’t have a steel pomander. Thinking about it, learning how to do this without any safety net whatsoever is just asking for trouble. It’s why I probably shouldn’t beat myself up over it.
Tonight I did 71-80. As mentioned before, I had two Odin Magicites. Odin Magicite can one shot bosses, so knowing that, I wanted to do an experiment. I wanted to try to conserve as much as possible. I was trying to get as much of a full set of pomanders as possible. I figured I could try to get in as much time as possible on the lesser floors to try to conserve as much as possible.
The end result? I have 1 reraise, Petra, and Magicite. I have 3 of everything else. Hey, it beats having 0 serenity.
To put it in perspective, I was at for 74 at the 30 minutes left mark. I was at 17 minutes around floor 76. Yeah. It was bad.
Unfortunately, I was getting very few gold chests. And the gold chests I were getting were either intuitions, concealments, and of course, mimics. I did get a strength or two, but my first steel pomander was on floor 76. Combine the fact that I was getting repeated blind and gloomed floors led to a match made in hell. It was incredibly time consuming not getting any flights, Petras, magicite, or anything that might have actually been useful. Because of this, I entered the boss room with 6 minutes left, and I was forced to use Odin. Had it been nine minutes, I would have attempted to manually kill the boss, as I had 5 minutes on Strength and Steel.
Floor 79 was a no items and no abilities floor, and I thought that maybe I could get an extra serenity somewhere or something good. One gold chest was on the other side of the room with two gryphons. I was under concealment, and I figured I would try my luck. And that chest, was a mimic. Yep, had to use a magicite on that floor too, hence why I now only have one left.
That lone magicite is Odin, so I could do the same thing with Onra, but that’s making a lot of assumptions. I had to use two Petra’s and a magicite to make it to the boss. The problem is, if your luck sucks with chests, you’re not getting far unless you use a lot of items. And therein lies the problem.
My only death really annoyed me. I was on a ‘big room’ floor and took a golem (it was also a gloomed floor). I had low health and while running tried to get my holy off. My holy and his auto attack went off at the same time, and I died and he lived. Lovely.
It seems that over conserving will very likely lead you into wiping. It just isn’t feasible, especially if you get garbage pomanders. Seems like of the maybe 10 chests I found in 3 floors, 5 of them were intuitions. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love me a Dodo mount, but I can’t get that mount if I fail.
In all honesty, I am not as fearful as I was with 71-80. Even 81-90 doesn’t seem so bad honestly. I’m much more concerned with 91-100 now. What makes it suck though is the floor debuffs. I really don’t want to use serenities this next floor set, but I might not have a say in the matter. All you can really do is play the cards you’ve currently got. If I can get some decent steels and a flight or two, I should be okay. Hopefully I get some decent luck, though I am not holding my breath.
Once again, my goal should be getting to 91, but I would like to not use everything to get there. The key to doing that is balancing item usage. Can’t use too much, can’t use too little. And hopefully, the RNG gods will be in my favor.
