Where it all began

Public
Even during my earliest days in Gridania, the number of adventurers I've come across in the Carline Canopy with a story to tell have never been in short supply. But where did it begin for Eorzea's champion, the Eikon Slayer, Dragon Rider, Hydaelyn's chosen, Griffin's Bane, Warrior/Weapon of Light, and the Stealer of Pants?

I take you here. To the sultry hills of Sohm Al

I have no recollection of my father or mother. The echo has not granted me visions of them, or my birth. My earliest memories begin in Dravainia. My home. Anything the echo has not provided has been filled in as best as possible by my guardian, or my adoptive father. He was a teacher, disciplinarian, guide, and mentor. But most importantly, he was a friend and father.

The dragonkin did not harbor any ill will towards my father, and he was allowed passage through Anyx Trine to hellfish. During one such trip about 1000 yalms south of the summit is where he heard the cries of an infant child. He told me the air grew ominously colder as he approached until he gazed upon two large dragons, frozen in a circular protective formation around the orphan despite the heat. With the help of Vidofnir, I was able to be freed. Even though he could not understand Dragontoungue, he knew exactly what Vidfoner spoke as their minds were synced gazing upon a pale-skinned, violet-eyed child, "A Lunarian".

The Lunarians

Through the teachings of Sharlayan philosophy, the Lunarians are known to be a humanoid race who call the moon their home. As celestial creatures, they are adept to harsh conditions that would be otherwise uninhabitable to normal humans.

The Lunarians have a very powerful innate ability to use magic. According to Nymian Scholars of the 5th astral era, Hydaelyn's aether flows through them as if they are a amplified conductor. They are known to take on several disciplines of magic with relative ease and surpassing their guildmasters in very little time.

They are known to visit many terrestrial planets in search of resources, and the cold nighttime skies brings them a sense of tranquility and familiarity. In exchange for these resources, they teach extremely powerful magic only accessible through channeling accrued aether through the very limited soulstones found on Hydaelyn.

According to father, no Lunarian has been recorded in well over a millennia. They had been thought to have accomplished their extraction of resources and returned to the moon.

Throughout the years

My father was an adventurer who traveled the world over. Spending his early years as a rogue in Limsa Lominsa, and eventually making his way onto the exploration vessels of the Maelstrom command to serve in espionage. I remember him telling me, "A true rogue hides in plain sight."

He taught me everything a man can teach a girl. He emphasized on the importance of being self-sufficient and was proficient at everything from cooking to smithing. However, this didn't give him a sense of fashion as the clothes he would make for me always made me look like a boy. My more ladylike mannerisms were taught to me from maidens in my home village east of the Hissing Cobbles.

One of my earliest memories is how sad I got when seeing a flower wilting away. The fullness of its bloom now reduced to pedals lying around a withered stem. Father explained the life cycle to me, and said no matter how powerful my magic is; it cannot prevent the inevitable. "The sun always sets Gemina." "This must happen so you can see the moon and all the stars you love to look at."

Father taught me a range of melee skills to protect myself. "Speed kills" was his motto, and he detested heavy armor favoring leather harnesses over steel plates. However, he knew he could not provide me with the magical guidance I needed, and would need to seek passage through Ishgard to receive tutorship from the disciples of magic in one or more of the three city states of Eorzea.

The decision to become an adventurer

Limsa Lominsa's lush vegetation, fishery, heavy accents, pirates, boozehounds, and Drowning Wench/Aftcastle brawls.

Thanalan's heat, vast wealth; home to the legendary Black Bull, Manderville Gold Saucer, and the central state for politics.

Gridania's sea of forestation of the mysterious Black Shroud home to myths and legends such as the "Dark rider" who searches for a worthy foe, and should he be defeated he will only return stronger and consume the one who takes his blade.

I've heard all the stories, and everywhere sells itself. I mainly knew that I wanted to follow suit to my father and set out to help people, but in order to do that, I needed to hone my magical abilities. With each in mind, the arcanist guild of Limsa Lominsa is where I set my sights.

While on the ship bound for Limsa Lominsa, I gazed out at the stars and the moon in waning crescent. We had maybe two days tops before a new moon. A time I usually think my supposed moonkin are turning their backs on me. The skies were still so beautiful. Eerie faint clouds highlighted by what was left of the moon's light. The seas were calm, and a cool breeze occasionally brushed my brow in caress. So many stars. I touched my index finger to my thumb and held my hand up looking at the encompassment through the hole. "LOOK AT THE GALAXIES I HOLD!", I laughed out loud. The crew members looked at me like I was a weirdo but still laughed along. I felt at peace. After having my fill I went below deck to feed the chocobos and reflected on a conversation with my father.

Never having anything close to a mother other than maidens teaching me how to be a proper lady, I wondered why he never sought a more 'permanent' solution to having that around. When I asked him, he respected my decision to become an adventurer, but in one skip of my heart beat said, "Gemina, your power is going to make a difference in this world. Harken that on this path, the consequences for love will be much higher for you." I guess... I guess I knew what he meant by that.

It was then that I remember feeling dizzy. Perhaps a hazy image of a concerned chocobo as I lost consciousness. Then there was the vision...

Very nice, you obviously know your FF lore. You did the whole 'no parents' thing, but at least they weren't killed and you gave her someone as a 'father' figure who did NOT die, Yay!

Always nice to see new writers. Keep it up dear; you got it started, now keep it going!

Thank you so much for reading! I really wanted Gemina's first lessons of the life cycle to come from a strong parental figure who is indeed still alive. This is why I used a flower instead of an actual person or parent to symbolize death along with the beauty that can still be found.

Stay tuned for more. I'm just getting started!
