Overview

Fisher Disciplines of the Land

Fishers are the harvesters of the realm's marine and freshwater animal resources.
The trade rose to prominence in the nation of Limsa Lominsa, owing to the plentiful waters upon and around Vylbrand island. Be it from the shore of a sea, the bank of a river, or the deck of a boat, Eorzea's anglers must constantly account for a wide range of factors to optimize their success, including season, time, place, tools, and bait.

Joining a Discipline of the Land

Once you reach level 10 in the class you chose when starting the game, you can take on a new quest. Clearing this quest will allow you to join guilds for other classes.

To become a fisher, find and join the Fishermen's Guild on the lower decks of Limsa Lominsa (X:7.9 Y:14.2).

(After entering a guild, you must equip the tool of the class you want in order to change your class.)

Fisher Features

Disciples of the Land are able to collect materials from the land within their areas of expertise.

Fishers are a gathering class that specializes in catching freshwater and marine animals from lakes, rivers, and oceans.
Those who have mastered the angling arts can also claim their catches from more unique locales such as desert sands, clouds, and even magma.
When exploring the ocean depths, however, fishers must use a spearfishing gig to catch fish from teeming waters.

Fishing

Getting Started

First, use the Bait action to prepare bait and tackle.

There is a large selection of lures, some for freshwater, some for saltwater, some for all bodies of water, and so on.

Bait and tackle is purchasable at various merchants and fieldcraft vendors. Choose your tools carefully to match your desired fishing location.

Once you've selected your bait, approach your desired fishing location and use the Cast action to begin fishing.

Fishing Tips

Once you've cast your lure, fish will approach the bait after a while.

When you get a bite, exclamation marks will display above your character's head. Use the Hook action with the right timing to reel in your catch.

You can view past fishing holes and fish data in your fishing log.

Catch Sizes

Large-sized Fish & Angler's Art

All fish come with a size rating. Fish that are larger than the average size for their species are considered large-sized.

After acquiring the trait Angler's Art, you have a chance to gain a stack of Angler's Art upon landing a large-sized fish.

You can have up to 10 stacks of Angler's Art at one time, and you can use these stacks to perform powerful actions.

Patience

Once you've cast your lure, fish will approach the bait after a while.
When you get a bite, exclamation marks will display above your character's head. Use the Hook action with the right timing to reel in your catch.

Patience & Patience II

The actions Patience and Patience II can greatly increase the chances of landing a large-sized fish.

In exchange, Hook efficiency is reduced.

Precision Hookset & Powerful Hookset

You can compensate for the Hook efficiency decrease after using Patience or Patience II by selecting the appropriate hookset. When "!" appears above your character's head, use the Precision Hookset, and when "!!" appears, use the Powerful Hookset.

This will help you reel in large catches more easily.

Collectables

Fisher Collectable Items

As a Disciple of the Land, you may be required to barter items called collectables.

These items each have a collectability rating, and those with higher collectability will earn you better rewards.

Certain gatherer class collectables can also be converted into other materials with aetherial reduction.

A collectable's type and collectability both influence the type and number of items to which it can be reduced.

Fishing for Collectables

Using the Collect action will allow you to acquire certain fish as collectables.

The larger the fish collectable is, the greater its collectability.

Spearfishing

Getting Started

Upon reaching level 61 as a fisher and completing the quest "A New Fishing Ex-spear-ience," you will be able to go spearfishing.

You must have a spearfishing gig equipped to go spearfishing.

In water, you can use the Shark Eye action to locate teeming waters where many fish are located.

Target the teeming waters location to switch to the spearfishing screen.

Spearfishing Tips

You will see different kinds of fish swim across your screen.

Each fish has a weak spot for which you can aim.
Unleash your spear into the weak spot with the Gig action to acquire the fish.

You can view past fishing holes and fish data in your fishing log.

Nearby fish will take notice of your actions, their wariness represented by a gauge at the top of the spearfishing interface.

It increases slowly over time, as well as with each spear strike. When the gauge is full, the fish will disperse, ending your spearfishing attempt.

Catch Counter

Successfully catching multiple fish in succession will increase your catch counter, which slows the rate at which wariness increases.

The catch counter can go up to 10, but will drop back down to 0 if you fail a Gig action or go too long without catching any fish.
