[Guide] Chocobo Companion - 6. Training in stable

Public
Training Chocobo Through Stable

As you get the access to a stable, every hour you can train the Chocobos currently stabled there, your's and other player's. Doing so will give experience points to the trained Chocobo.

Chocobo Food
To train a Chocobo, you need to have Chocobo food to reward it. Several type of Chocobo food are available: Krakka Root, Curiel Root, Sylkis Bud, Pahsana Fruit, Tantalplant, Mimett Gourd and Thavnairian Onion.

All these foods will give the same amount of experience points.

Krakka Roots can be grown from Krakka Roots Seeds sold by Material Suppliers in Residential Areas or Tanie at Gridania for 3,480 gils or can be bought on the marketboard.

The seeds grow in 3 days and gives 9 Krakka Roots with normal soil, 11 with Shroud Top Soil Grade I, 13 with Shroud Top Soil Grade II, 18 with Shroud Top Soil Grade III.

Favorite Food
While training your Chocobo, it can get a favorite food if you use 10 times the same food. Having a favorite food will give your Chocobo a bonus when this food is used on the field.

Only Curiel Root, Sylkis Bud, Pahsana Fruit, Tantalplant and Mimett Gourd can be a favorite food, not the Krakka Root nor the Thavnairian Onion.

You can change the favorite food by training your Chocobo 10 time with another food, always the same.

If you don't want to change your Chocobo favorite food, be careful to train it with this food or Krakka Roots, or to vary the food as to not give it 10 time in a row the same food.

As you can't set a favorite food for other players Chocobo, if other players are feeding your Chocobo, they won't be able to set a favorite food for your Chocobo nor to reset it, no matter which food is used.

Favorite Food Bonus
The bonus your Chocobo can get from favourite food is an enhanced version of the effect of the food.

Curiel Root: Companion EXP Up II
Sylkis Bud: Companion Attack Up II
Pahsana Fruit: Companion Enmity Up II
Tantalplant: Companion Maximum HP Up II
Mimett Gourd: Companion Healing Potency Up II

Stable Condition
The stable can be in one from three different state of cleanliness: good, fair and poor. This state affect the experience the Chocobos will get when trained and can be restored to a better state by using a Magicked Stable Broom.

Good condition: gives 100% of the experience.

Fair condition: gives 80% of the experience.

Poor condition: gives 60% of the experience.

You can check the condition on the stable menu or by visualy looking at the stable, glittering straw means good, normal straw means fair, scattered straw means poor.

Following is the amount of experience points gained by Chocobos in a stable at good condition.

Training Timers

There are two timers for Chocobo training: one concerning the owner, one concerning every other players.

The owner timer means that every hour, the owner can train it's own Chocobo, no matter if someone else have trained it in the same hour or not.

The other players timer means that every hour, anyone can train your Chocobo, no matter if you have trained it in the same hour or not. This timer concern all the other players, meaning that two players can't train the same Chocobo, that is not theirs, in the same hour.

When a Chocobo goes in the stable, nobody except the owner can train it for the first hour.

Ranking Up in the Stable

In the stable, Chocobos can't rank up. Once their experience bar is filled, their rank number shows in orange in the stable menu and a warning message willl tell anyone wanting to train it that no experience will be gained.

Once your Chocobo experience bar is full, in order to make it rank up, you have to take it back from the stable and call it in a battle you would gain experience from.

If you are already maximum level and wants to give experience to your Chocobo, there is two options: either you can do FATEs with your Chocobo, or you can battle ennemies whose level are down to 10 yours (i.e. if you're level 80 you can battle level 70 ennemies and your Chocobo will get experience).

Also worth noting the following:

Krakka Root: Nothing (good for cheap training food)
Curiel Root: Experience Point Increase (when killing enemies in the field)
Sylkis Bud: Attack Potency Increase
Pahsana Fruit: Emnity Increase (good for tank stance chocobo if you're a healer!)
Tantalplant: Increase Max HP
Mimett Gourd: Increase Healing Magic (my personal favorite, experience can be done by weeklies doing fates)

I fed my chocobo Curiel Root as it's favorite food active at all times rank 1 to 20, which it hit just after I finished EW Shared Fates completed. Achievement log says I've done 928 fates all up so far.

I think it was worth going for the exp, but now I'll swap to Sylkis Bud for some extra damage I guess.
I only do fates as WHM or WAR anyway.

Can anyone confirm that rewarding it sylkis bud (or other buff food), after choco has attained rank 20, does in fact work? when I do it, I work and the screen fades black then immediately im back in control and get an error pop up saying choco cannot receive ant more XP due to being max level (20) already. The timer does in fact reset, but I get the feeling somethings not right. Maybe I'm wrong. Hopefully someone can try this out and reply. rly want that dmg boost because apparently its big.

@Kono Suba I can confirm it works, I just tested it myself with my rank 20 Chocobo and got it to love Sylkis buds.
Don't worry about the error message, it's perfectly normal. As long as the timer reset, it's meaning your Chocobo got its food and that's all that matters.
