Quests
New side story quests have been added.
- Saga of the Zodiac Weapons
Once your Zodiac weapon has been affixed with mahatma, you may increase its soul resonance level by equipping it and completing certain activities. Once you have achieved full soul resonance and your Zodiac weapon has sufficiently awakened, present it to Jalzahn, and you will be rewarded with a Zodiac weapon zeta of item level 135 that retains all the upgrades made to the original Zodiac weapon.
A weapon’s soul resonance level will rise by a set value determined by the activity being undertaken. There may be times when a bonus is applied to the soul resonance value ordinarily granted. By sharing information with other players, you will be able to level up your Zodiac Weapon more efficiently.
Resonance progress can be verified through the use of the Zodiac glass.
After receiving your Zodiac weapon zeta, you will be able to alter its materia-enhanced parameters. Prepare a sphere scroll of the correct type to receive the power of your chosen Zodiac weapon, then use materia and alexandrite to redo the infusion process.
* The materia-enhanced properties of a Zodiac weapon zeta will be transferred to a sphere scroll after being adjusted to item level 110 values. When returned to the Zodiac weapon zeta, these values will be re-adjusted to be item level 135.

Participating in Races

You will also gain entry to races in higher classes, and will have the option to retire your race chocobo after rank 40 to be used for covering.
Training
Should you wish to develop a given attribute, you can give your race chocobo a special feed. This feed can be crafted or purchased from the Tack & Feed Trader NPC in the Manderville Gold Saucer at the Chocobo Square (X:6 Y:4).
Attribute | Effect |

Acceleration | Affects how quickly your chocobo can attain maximum speed. |
Endurance | Affects how long your chocobo can run before becoming exhausted. |
Stamina | Affects how quickly your chocobo’s stamina bar drains. |
Cunning | Affects how effectively your chocobo can navigate a course without slowing down. |
- Covering
If you choose to retire your race chocobo, you can arrange a covering with another chocobo to produce fledglings of a higher pedigree.
Before a covering can be arranged, players must complete the following quest:
Quest | Required Level and Location |
Like Sire Like Fledgling | Level 15 |
The Gold Saucer, Chocobo Square (X:6 Y:4) NPC: Chocobokeep
Players must first complete the quest "So You Think You Can Ride This Chocobo," and own a racing chocobo rank 40 or higher. |
To arrange a coupling, you must be in possession of at least one retired chocobo registration form, which can be obtained by retiring a rank 40 or higher race chocobo. A covering can be arranged between two of your own retired chocobos, or between one retired chocobo and a breeding chocobo hired at the Manderville Gold Saucer. To retire your race chocobo, speak with the Race Chocobo Trainer NPC in the Manderville Gold Saucer at the Chocobo square (X:6 Y:4).
When retiring your race chocobo, you will be given the opportunity to offer parting words to your chocobo, praising one of its two abilities. The ability praised will remain as its hereditary ability to be passed down through covering.
* Please note that a race chocobo cannot be re-registered once retired.
1. Preparing Chocobos for the Covering
Both a male and female chocobo are required when arranging a covering. Furthermore, only one of the pair may be a breeding chocobo from the Manderville Gold Saucer.
2. Arranging the Covering
When you have prepared the chocobos for covering, speak with Katering in the North Shroud at Moogle’s Gift Mounts (X:20 Y:22). Please note that arranging a covering will incur a fee.
3. Receiving a Proof of Covering
Upon payment, Katering will take the two chocobos into her care and you will receive a Proof of Covering, which indicates when you can retrieve your fledgling chocobo. Speak with her again at the appointed time to receive your new racing chocobo.
* The fledging chocobo will inherit its color from one of its parents.
4. Collecting Your Fledgling
After the appointed time, speak with Katering to exchange the Proof of Covering for your fledgling.
- Race Abilities
Race chocobos can possess two types of abilities: hereditary and acquired abilities, and are allowed one of each. Hereditary abilities are inherited by the offspring of chocobo used in covering, while acquired abilities are learned as your bird increases in rank, and via training manuals. Certain abilities are always active during the race, while others must be used at the rider’s discretion.
* Manually activated abilities may only be used once per race.
Abilities Learned from Rank
From rank 10 onward, race chocobos that have yet to learn an acquired ability may do so at random upon gaining in rank.
Abilities Learned from Training
To teach your race chocobo a specific ability, players can use training manuals purchased with MGP.
Hereditary Abilities
A race chocobo acquired through covering will inherit one ability from its parents.
Unlearning Race Abilities
To unlearn a race ability, players must first purchase a bottle of lethe water, then speak with the Race Chocobo Trainer NPC in the Manderville Gold Saucer at the Chocobo Square (X:6 Y:4). Please note, however, that only acquired abilities can be unlearned.
Triple Triad
Triple Triad is a recently popularized card game in Eorzea, wherein players make clever use of their deck’s composition to defeat their opponents. To learn the basics and begin playing Triple Triad, players must complete the following quest:
Quest | Required Level and Location |
Triple Triad Trial | Level 15 |
The Gold Saucer (X:4 Y:7) NPC: Triple Triad Master
Players must first complete the quest "It Could Happen to You." |
- Location
- Creating a Deck
The first step to becoming a successful Triple Triad competitor is building a deck. After completing the quest "Triple Triad Trial," players will receive five cards. Using the cards in your inventory will register them to your Card List, which can be accessed by selecting Gold Saucer under Character in the main menu. To create a deck, access Card Decks, also located within the Gold Saucer options, and select one of the five available slots to assign cards to a deck.
Once you have prepared a deck, speak with the Triple Triad Master to engage her in a tutorial match.
New cards can be obtained from the Triple Triad Trader NPC found in the Manderville Gold Saucer, as rewards from winning against various NPCs, and as prizes from Triple Triad tournaments.
* The tutorial match against the Triple Triad Master can be repeated as many times as desired.
Unwanted cards in your inventory, such as doubles of those already registered to your card list, can be sold for MGP to the Triple Triad NPC in the Manderville Gold Saucer (X:4 Y:7).
- Seeking Out Opponents
Challenging NPCs
Certain NPCs are willing to play a game of Triple Triad with you. Such NPCs can be identified by a unique icon over their heads. For a small amount of MGP , players can challenge them to matches, and potentially win additional MGP and acquire new cards.
Challenging Players
Other players can also be challenged to Triple Triad matches. To issue a challenge, target your desired opponent and select Challenge to Normal Match from the subcommand menu. Although no fee is incurred, neither are there card rewards to be had. However, players will receive an MGP bonus for up to five wins every day. Eligibility to receive this bonus is reset every day at 3:00 p.m. (GMT). The rules for the match are set by the player issuing the challenge. Moreover, a challenge can only be issued in areas designated for Triple Triad matches.

- Cards
As of patch 2.51, 80 varieties of Triple Triad cards are available. While some cards can be purchased with MGP at the Manderville Gold Saucer, others can be obtained as rewards from defeating NPCs, Triple Triad Tournaments, and the completion of certain duties. As cards cannot be traded or purchased from the market, players are encouraged to challenge NPCs and journey throughout Eorzea in search of rare and powerful cards.
All cards can be classified by rarity (one to five stars). Initially, each deck can only contain one card with a rarity rating higher than one star. As you acquire more cards, however, the restriction becomes less prohibitive, and will eventually only apply to the highest tiers of rarity.
Less than 30 Cards
Allowed one card with a rarity of two stars or higher.
Between 30 and 59 Cards
No restriction on cards with a rarity of two stars or less.
Allowed one card with a rarity of three stars or higher.
Allowed one card with a rarity of three stars or higher.
60 Cards or More
No restriction on cards with a rarity of three stars or less.
Allowed one card with a rarity of four stars or higher.
* In the upper right corner of certain cards is an icon indicating a type, which comes into play when used with certain rule sets.

- Basic Rules
1. Two players take turns placing cards on a three-by-three grid.
2. The player who goes first is decided at random.
3. When it is your turn, you must place a card on one of the open spaces on the grid.
4. When a card is placed, the numbers representing its four sides are compared to any adjacent cards. If a number on the card placed is greater than the number it faces on an adjacent card, you will flip that card and capture it.
5. The objective is to capture and control more cards than your opponent. After nine cards have been played, the player who controls more cards is the winner. Note that the unplayed 10th card is also counted.
- Advanced Rules
In addition to the basic rules, there are a number of advanced rules that can alter the way a Triple Triad match is played. They can be applied under a variety of circumstances, and can be considered either "regional rules" or "match rules."
Regional Rules
Regional rules vary by location, and are reset daily at 3:00 p.m. (GMT). Up to two regional rules are in effect at any given time, and certain preferences may be observed in each region. It is worth noting, however, that certain NPCs will not adhere to regional rules.
Match Rules
Match rules are decided upon by the participants. A maximum of two match rules can be in effect at any one time, and are set automatically by NPC opponents. When challenging fellow player characters, however, you are given the decision as to which match rules will be in play. Regional rules can also take effect when challenging fellow players. As a result, when two match rules are set by an opposing player, a maximum of four rules can be in effect during any given match.
- Advanced Rules Explanation
All Open
A rule wherein all five cards in each deck are made visible to both players.
Three Open
A rule wherein three random cards in each deck are made visible to both players.
Same
A rule that adds a new condition to the capture mechanic. If the numbers of two or more cards are the same as the numbers on the adjacent sides of the card you place, you gain control of every matching card.
This rule also allows you to score a "Combo" capture. Should the cards you capture lie adjacent to "weaker" cards (i.e. cards with smaller numbers on the neighboring sides), those cards will fall under your control as well. Only one of the two or more matching cards needs to belong to your opponent for the Same capture mechanic to take effect.
Sudden Death
When "Sudden Death" is in effect, any match that ends in a draw will be restarted from turn one. Your deck for this new match will consist of the cards you had control over at the end of the previous game. Sudden Death will continue until one player wins or until five more consecutive drawn matches have been played, at which point the game will result in a draw.
Plus
A rule that adds a new condition to the capture mechanic. If the numbers of two or more cards have the same total when added to the numbers on the adjacent sides of the card you place, you gain control of every matching card.
This rule also allows you to score a "Combo" capture. Should the cards you capture lie adjacent to "weaker" cards (i.e. cards with smaller numbers on the neighboring sides), those cards will fall under your control as well. Only one of the two or more matching cards needs to belong to your opponent for the Plus capture mechanic to take effect.
Random
A rule wherein your chosen deck will be replaced with five cards selected at random from your entire card list.
Order
A rule wherein you are required to play each card in the order that it appears in your deck.
Chaos
A rule wherein the card you play each turn is selected at random from your deck.
Reverse
A rule wherein the conditions for capturing cards are switched so that smaller numbers are more powerful than larger numbers.
Fallen Ace
A rule wherein the all-powerful "A" becomes susceptible to capture by the lowly "1." If the Reverse rule is also in play, a "1" will then become vulnerable to capture by an "A."
Ascension
A rule that affects cards that are grouped into a specific type, such as "Primal" or "Beastman." When placed on the playing grid, the number values on these cards are increased by one for every card of that type that is in play. Numbers that are increased to "11" or more are considered to be of "A" rank.
Descension
A rule that affects cards that are grouped into a specific type, such as "Primal" or "Beastman." When placed on the playing grid, the number values on these cards are decreased by one for every card of that type that is in play. Any number that is decreased to "0" or less is treated as a "1."
Swap
A rule wherein one card from your deck is switched with one of your opponent's before the match begins. The cards to be swapped are chosen at random, and are returned to their original owners at the end of the game.
Roulette
When the "Roulette" rule is in effect, the advanced rules for the match will be chosen at random.
- Triple Triad Tournaments
The Manderville Gold Saucer will periodically host Triple Triad Tournaments, some of their most enthralling and popular events. Compete against the realm's best players for a chance to win some of the rarest cards to be found in Triple Triad.
Participating in Tournaments
Players can sign up to participate in ongoing tournaments by speaking with the Tournament Recordkeeper NPC at the Card Square in the Manderville Gold Saucer (X:4 Y:7). It should also be noted that, in addition to players, NPCs located within the Card Square can also participate in tournaments.
* Players must first complete a tutorial match with the Triple Triad Master before participating in any tournaments.
* Players must first complete a tutorial match with the Triple Triad Master before participating in any tournaments.
Tournament Rules
Tournament participants can only play a set number of matches per tournament, with every match played counting toward their final scores. This score will increase for every match won, with more points being awarded for defeating higher-ranked opponents. Each tournament has a fixed set of advanced rules that tournament matches must follow. This does not apply to regional rules.
Tournament Rankings
Players can view the standings for ongoing tournaments at any time by either speaking with the Tournament Recordkeeper NPC at the Card Square in the Manderville Gold Saucer (X:4 Y:7), or examining the nearby Tournament Ranking Board. Scores will be locked the moment the tournament ends, and these numbers will determine the final rankings.
When two or more players share the same score at the end of a tournament, rank is then determined by the greatest number of wins. If wins are also equal, then rank will be decided by the least number of matches played. Should match numbers also be equal, then the higher rank will go to the participant who first recorded a result on the tournament ranking board.

Cactpot
The daily Mini Cactpot and weekly Jumbo Cactpot are two popular games of chance in the Gold Saucer that are both simple and potentially lucrative.
Jumbo Cactpot
The Jumbo Cactpot is a lottery limited to one ticket purchase per week. Before purchasing a ticket, players must first complete the following quest:
- Selecting Ticket Numbers
When purchasing a Jumbo Cactpot ticket, simply pick any four digits, each between one and nine, to be used for that week's lottery.
There is also a participant bonus, which increases all MGP prizes based on the number of tickets sold. There are multiple levels to the participant bonus. The higher this level becomes, the larger the subsequent bonus.
When the winning number is drawn, in order from the last digit to the first, the more matching numbers you have, the greater the prize you’ll receive. After the drawing, you will have one week (Earth time) to claim your prize. After this one-week period ends, you will be unable to claim MGP or prizes. In addition to your other winnings, you will receive the Early Bird Bonus if you claim your prize within one hour (Earth time) of the Jumbo Cactpot drawing. The time of the drawing will differ depending on your data center.
* Only one Jumbo Cactpot ticket can be purchased per week. A new ticket cannot be purchased until the current lottery has ended.
