So, I try not to have my son watch violent TV shows and tell him. "no fighting" if he sees a show where there is too much violence.
But this does not seem to extend to games for I sometimes play FF 14 with him around . When I do, he goes "No Annabel, that's fighting."
I tell him that, no, Annabel is NOT fighting, she is healing people. He then goes, "why is she throwing rocks?" I, um. say......"because things are being mean to her."
He just gives me a Look and says, "that's fighting."
And I won't EVEN go into how I play 'A Plague Tale' sometimes when he's around and when I mess up and people get eaten by rats, he acts out the death scenes.....
Sigh, I am a bad parent.....
buhaha! awe so cute xD
I let my kids watch the violent stuff, and explain the context about what's going on and stuff.
It's a thing that happens, and I want them to know and understand it.
I've also taught them a bunch of swear words and body motions and explained why, when, with who, and where they are/are not appropriate.
Well, he’s only 4 so it will be a while before really teaching him things. There is a lot he just doesn’t understand yet.
Then again, he surprises me everyday with what he DOES understand. 😋
our only rule is no shooters for younger then 13 in my apartment. Though I am okay with Halo tbh because it's aliens and sifi stuffs.. otherwise, I dun really see a problem aside from maybe the more mature audience meant games.
I don't see how raising such a smart kid makes you a bad parent. :P
Well, yes, but I REALLY should be playing more 'kid friendly' games when he is around. ;-)
No one's gonna congratulate her for having a child so late in her life? I'm happy for you Annabel. Many women your age long for having children. In any case, little version of Annabel running around in the game sounds cute.
There are worse than ffxiv in term of kid unfriendly game.
And if you watch your TV news with him around it is far worse than the game.
A little version of Annabel... **thinking** x)
Ah, thanks, Sahara. I honestly don;t know if he will get into video games, though he REALLY likes playing kids games on the Ipad. I guess I'll see when he is older. I would like to see him getting into boardgames and rpg's though.
But he is his own person. For all I know, he might go the sports route and be very active outside, forsaking indoor stuff. I won't discourage him from anything.
LOL, luckily Yoru, we don't get local or national news channels, only internet streaming stuff.
There have been cases where young'uns get in trouble with the law after being inspired by what they see on TV. Gotta put a leash on that....
This is the perfect teaching moment to let him know the difference between play and reality. That's one of the valuable purposes of playing games. Ask any dog! haha It's great you play together, that means more than anything.
Yoru Kuro has the right of it. While there is a lot of content in FF14 that he may not be ready for at that age, when it comes to violence, this game is fairly tame. You can do a lot worse than a swords-and-sorcery RPG.
