What makes a OK Mentor?
What makes a Fantastic Mentor?
What makes a Terrible Mentor?
What is the first thought that enters your head when you see the Burger King Crown?
Does it invoke a sense of comfort?
Do you feel like throwing up?
Does a inexplicable RAGE FILL YOUR SOUL when you see the crown?
Or do you uncontrollably desire a Whopper with cheese with a side of Frys with that shake.
Now that you are required to have One Thousand Five Hundred Commendations does your opinion change? Does that number of Comms make you feel secure that person must REALLY know what they are doing?
Does the popularity, personality of a player directly attribute to the fact they KNOW THEIR SH%$?
What, ( in YOUR opinion ) requirements for becoming a mentor would change your mind, and would truly give you confidence that person knows what they're talking about?
Or is that even possible....
Most my activities today are done with friends so I don’t have that many comms on my faerie character, but I have over 2k on my Diabolos character. Does not really guarantee experienced either.
Often comms I give out are to new players due to the extra bonus I get for running with them and or party filler
It is potentially irresponsible but the required mentor stuff atm is a bit over zealous as well. It could use some pruning none the less
When i first became a mentor, i did it because it was a way for me to show people i was willing to teach them things about the game and show them how to do some stuffs.
With time i felt like it became more of a bragging icon. The changes they are making is meant to reduce the amount of mentor we see. I understand the good in it. But to be honest i don't think it will reverse the image that burger king crown has now.
I legitimately have no opinions about mentors, but I gotta say I love your spooky orange and black theme.
@Espy What pruning in your opinion may allow the program to work close to, or as it was intended?
@Nefertari As was implied in another thread it has been "jokingly" suggested a watering can be utilized to be the symbol of mentorship. Do you think the Icon being changed to a more, simplified icon make a difference in your opinion? Would it make it any less desirable to become a mentorif the icon was not a crown?
@ Lalli ty <3 :D
I actually give the people with crowns the benefit of the doubt and assume they will either give good advice, help people, or lead well.
So they are in my good graces until they do something stupid to make them NOT be.
@Anna, would you say there is a higher percentage of times you've witnessed Positive interactions with mentors?
Or would you say a Higher percentage have fallen out of your good graces? Any stories to share?

Lolo, I want a Whopper.
@Yoko: Thank you drive thru, that will be one whopper to go, with some fries to got with that shake :3
Lolo, it's mostly the latter. Most of the mentors I have seen have been pretty decent to either help, guide, or lead.
For example, in PVP yesterday, the leader was a mentor and she was very good in guiding our little group around to the stuff we needed to do.
I have also had mentors give advice on hard bosses or mechanics and help new people with dungeon stuff.
The first Titania run I did, the main tank was a mentor, and he told us exactly what to do for a perfect, death free run.
Thank you Ana, those are stories that are all too far and in-between.
However they give me hope that more New and Old players alike can have the POSITIVE experiences you have had with mentors.
@Lolo, what I mean by pruning is lowering the content required to have cleared in order to be a mentor. At the moment the list is almost eternal when you actually look at it. You need to clear every extreme and all that.
The reality is, you may only need a mentor for previous expansion stuff alone. Not current as most upon current will be able to adapt and learn with current partys.
This is perhaps an "IMO" but the basics of every day raiding are found within previous expansions as is.
Remove it. It is unnecessary. Helpful players will help, players looking to stroke their egos don't need a crown, they'll do so without a graphical indicator.
I don't pay attention to mentor crowns, I just assume everyone is bad.
I have 6000+ comms and already the mentor mount (2000 mentor roulette). And I disabled my crown because way too many mentors are... well... not good.
And by saying not good, I don't mean they don't know how to play their job (they could be in a job they don't master after all). I mean they don't know how to behave properly as a mentor: helping others, not harassing them, being patient.
And helping does not necessarily means speaking. You can help by showing the good example as well.
