Prize catch + identical cast sounds like a good idea for following a good catch. Keep some hi-cordials ready.

But I think you could start with slapping away one of the other two small fishes, casting prize catch and just don't pull !! bites to save both prize catch and surface slap effects, so that your next ! catch will be either what you need or the other unslapped fish.

Let me try to clear up an often confused fishing concept: SIZE vs BITE.

BITE is how many exclamation marks you see when the fish bites, which helps to indicate the type of fish. The bite types are weak (!), strong (!!), and ferocious (!!!).

SIZE is how large the fish is relative to its type. A fish with a weak bite (!) can still be a large fish!

Collectability is calculated as the fish's size * 10. This means that abilities like Patience, which increase the chance of landing a large fish, should be used to increase collectability. Patience has no effect on the bite type! You will still land weak bite (!) fish equally as often when using it.
Example: when fishing for a Giant Aetherlouse without Patience, on average I would land some measuring 8.2 ilms, which is worth 82 collectability (bad). After turning on Patience II, my next several catches measured about 17 ilms, which got me up to 170 collectability (good).
It's confusing stuff, but hopefully this helped a little. GLHF!

Depending how much GP you want to spend, use Surface Slap on any large fish or frequent small fish to increase chances of the Giant Aetherlouse.

Use Identical Catch and Prize Catch (550 GP) after catching one to guarantee 166+ collectability. Can say no to collect if it is below to stack and save space.

So, I just started playing a few months ago (after Endwalker launch) and was leveling fisher from the beginning. This is the first time in the fisher questline you have to do collectables. Soo... if there are any new people here like me, this is what you gotta do:

- Find the ability "Collect" in your journal and put it on your bars. (Mine was not automatically added to my action bars for some reason).
- Apply it, and it should give you the buff "Collector's Glove".
- You can now fish for the Studium deliveries. You can still catch the Aetherlouse without it on, but it will just be a base fish and not collectable, and you won't be able to turn them in. (I didn't realize these were collectables at first, and tried to turn in 6 regular Giant Aetherlouse, lol.)

It took me a long time to get my six at 166+ collectability. Just have a lot of patience and a lot of gold salmon roe. :)

The trick I used to get them with a collectability of at lease 166 requires being at least level 81 and a max GP of at least 550.

Just fish normally until you catch a Giant Aetherlouse then if the collectability is to low put no and catch it as a normal fish so it will stack or yes if it is high enough.
Then use "Identical Cast" followed by "Prize Catch", the next fish you catch will then be guarantied to be a high collectability Giant Aetherlouse.

I had an easier time using Leech as bait
