A little diary of playing FFXIV - ARR

Public
I was around 10 yo when I was overwhelmed by the CG cutscenes of FF games, and that was when I fell into this rabbit hole. I heard about FFXIV a long time ago, but I didn’t give it a try until now.

During the characterization, my idea was to make a tiny supporter, so I chose to be a Lalafell conjurer. Well, the beginning of most MMORPG games was the same. I was being an unknown adventurer, doing some errands around the map. At that time, I wasn’t hooked up by the story as I was trying to get to level 30 to become a White Mage. So I left my MSQ aside and started doing every quest I could see on my map. There weren’t any available side quests left for me to complete by that night, and I’ve finally reached level 30. I was excited about it, but I didn’t find any mission to unlock White Mage. After I googled about it, I’ve only realized that I need to complete a certain MSQ only for me to get the job quest to appear. I was frustrated by then, but I had left with no other choice but to continue my MSQ.

My memories of the earlier part of the ARR story

weren’t that clear as it was rather dull for me. The only things I remembered from then were Alphinaud, and Alisae who appeared in every city-state and joined some world-saving club.

During my third day of playing this game, I was doing my MSQ as usual and wasn’t paying a lot of attention to the conversations of the NPCs, but something happened. It was when Livia sas Junius and her troops went to the Waking Sands after I’ve beaten the first primal, Ifrit. The atmosphere was quite weird as Tataru wasn’t where she was supposed to be. As I walked into the basement, a terrific view burst into my sight. There were many bodies along the way to the Solar, and I felt insecure as I opened the door of the Solar. There was only Noraxia, a sylph after showing me her memory and dying in front of me. The feelings of powerlessness and regrets filled my mind at that time. I was a healer, but I couldn’t heal or raise a comrade of mine but only available to deliver their bodies back to wherever they were from.

I was then kind of try-hard during the quest to get back the Enterprise at the Coerthas. By then, Haurchefant was just a regular nice guy for me, not knowing he was one of my favorites after Heavensward. The same goes for Thancred. When it was known to me that Lahabrea possessed him, I kind of didn’t want to save him from the explosions after clearing the Praetorium.

The post ARR story plays another big part in pushing me deeper towards the never-ending hole. The self-sacrificing of Moenbryda for me to have enough aether to kill Nabriales was somewhat sad for me, but the unfortunate part was to break out the news to Urianger. Although her time introduced to us wasn’t as long as the others, her personality and interactions with Urianger made her a lovely character.

The last part of the ARR was mind-blowing, where Nanamo was poisoned right in front of me. That was the first time I was so angry that I even kind of threw my controller when I saw that disgusting face of Teledji. It felt nice when Raubahn killed him, although I prefer to torture him myself. And everyone was left behind to ensure that I escaped from Uldah and left me, Tataru, and Alphinaud no choice but to flee to Ishgard. This is where I started to like Haurchefant, as he warmed us up with words and mugs of hot drinks.
