Why I should just never say anything

Public
The other night, I did my Daily Expert Roulette and I happened to be watching the cast bar of the other BLM in the party. I noticed 2 stacks of astral, which to me was odd, since you don't normally get in that unless say, that F1 after 2 F4's was late or something. I started watching closer and saw they were opening with Fire 2, rather than Fire 3. After the first pull, I said, "Don't start with Fire 2, use Fire 3, then spam Fire 2 until around 2K MP, and finish with Flare, transpose, Fire 3, and repeat." I added they shouldn't ever bother casting Freeze, really, why do we even have this spell... It used to be great, but not anymore.

Later on, they seemed to occasionally be getting the Fire 3 first part, but I saw they would double cast B3. Now, I play BLM mainly, and I checked their gear. They're level 60, quite a few eso gear, no raid gear, so yea, not the same play style, but I felt I needed to help them improve their rotation, or at least give a couple pointers. I was in no rush to clear the dungeon, if the tank doesn't wanna speed run it, no problem. So I tell em, "don't recast Blizzard 3; if you need another MP tick, use B1, or cast thunder to fill the gap." I said it pretty blunt, but never did I call them negative, or indicate they were doing poorly.

Well, the healer apparently is their friend, and says, "Ok DPS police". I told them they need to learn how to play the job well. Usually, I wouldn't bother saying anything, but their technique was just too flawed to ignore. I guess, in my mind, I imagined this was the type of player that also complains content is too hard, but they are making it harder by not even mastering the basics by Lv60... The BLM finally answers: "dude, i'm just fine. thank you for the pointers, but im not perfect, half asleep and I dont play often". Ok, that's fine, it's late (east coast at least), but no, the WHM continues with "what you mean to say is that this game isn't a game?"

Maybe I should have never said anything. We would have continued to wipe to the mini-boss, and eventually someone would hit vote abandon. I chose to try and offer tips, and instead of a simple, "thanks but no thanks", I'm attacked as if I'm some elitist jerk. Yes, my gear is great, cause I worked hard to get it..., but you don't see my riding around in a gobwalker yet... Sorry, I'm not THAT good I guess. I just don't understand why players immediately play the elitist card on those who try to help. If you don't want anyone to talk to you, then don't play an online game where you interact with others... or just say nothing. I wasn't going to press her any further (you all can believe what you will on that...)

I really wish as players, we could all just enjoy this wonderful game, and be friendly with each other. The problem is, if you are going to run content that's new, it's going to require some degree of skill. Other players are going to be watching you (I know others are watching for me to slip up, which I do plenty). The critical thing is, how do you act? Do you try to build that player up by offering advice? And for the player struggling, or perceived to be struggling, how do you take constructive criticism from others. Rather than get bent out of shape over it, just say nothing, or kindly decline the help. If the other person persists, then yes, they're being disrespectful.

Anyways... I needed to get this off my chest... so enjoy... I look forward to meeting all of you in our next adventures :)

You should have vote kicked them :P On the bright side at least it wasn't one of the Ice Mages...

The main issue is that the game doesn't tell its players that they suck, it instead forces others to carry them. In such "playing for fun" environment players are more likely to get offended when you give them tips. But do not blame them, blame the game design and faceroll content. There are almost no consequences when playing your job incorrectly, one just have to wait for good enough carries.

i was in expert and the BRD asks the AST if they would like foe's?
The AST replied with "what is that?" "i dont have that skill"..etc etc..we tried to tell them it was a brd skill that buffs the magic damage...so the brd re-phrased and asked if they were planning on doing any damage?
which the AST responded with "im a healer..."
Run went fine, no problems..was just funny.... to me.

I personally would love someone to give me pointers but I had to turn to blog to get advice and how to improve.. if I knew I was doing something wrong and someone pointed it out when I was half of asleep I would be the same way as that person...

On the bright side, I just ran Aurum Vale on BRD (which I'm pretty certain I suck at hahaha), and the healer was like, "OMG, a BRD that sings ballad"). I guess it's because I normally play magic classes, and I know from raids that healers appreciate ballad around 30-40% ish right?

Also, in this run, the tank was new, and let us know outright. Was great!!! The healer explained the bosses, even used certain FATEs as examples, and we did great.

Thanks for the comments :)

As a healer I actually prefer Foes over Ballad.

Even if there's no other caster? I guess that still does make sense.

Yeah, MP regens fast enough between pulls that it's generally not an issue.

No, you should've said something. If the experienced players are to be the stewards of this game's posterity, it is imperative that we provide them with advice crucial to the life of the game. Most of the experienced players won't be around until this game begins to wane, and the more trashy players that don't bother or don't know about proper play style will speed up the decline of the game.
