Note: I find myself wanting to express my opinions on several topics and I think this is the place torrid. to be. My opinions are personal thoughts (and are not a critique), which I am not claiming to be right nor wrong. I am not expecting comments, otherwise I would have went to the official forum. In the event that there would be, I honor and respect everybody else’s opinion, though I’d prefer a healthy conversation over that of a heated debate.
Some Current Opinion(s):
Some FFXIV players believe that the content to FFXIV has become more of a fan service, with majority of player requests provided
Players wanting red mage, samurai, blue mage, gunblade, dancer, Viera, a new tank, a new healer and going to the moon are among a few that were provided by the development team. You could not ignore the cheers from those who were at the fan festivals during the announcements of some of these features. We are currently on the brink of whether we will get necromancer, another highly requested job (I personally think we will not).
Is the development team providing content to make the players happy at the expense of actually developing something new, unique or even the pace of how they would like to deliver content? Maybe or maybe not, as the development team will not acknowledge this publicly.
Reaction to the integration of Nier was split among playerbase. A plethora of references to previous Final Fantasy games bringing nostalgia to series fans abound the game, from Ivalice, Eden, Anima to the many allusions for FFIV in Endwalker (there are also twins in FFIV, do you know the fate of that set of twins in that game?).
I think it is balanced, so it is not a fan service. There are contents that SquareEnix has a hard stance, no matter how much the players cry out for them. We did not get the highly anticipated chemist as the healer job. A male Viera and a female Hrothgar are likely out of contention (I still hope these are implemented). Forget a better glamour system, it is still a no. Then there is the holy grail, instanced housing.

Oh GOD yes! SOOOOOO much yes!
All one has to do is look at Viera and blue mage to know this is true.
But hey, it's keeps people in the game and hopefully does NOT interfere too much with the content for the non fans.
